MARITIME ENGINEERING – LICENSED THIRD ENGINEER
- Responsible for the duties assigned to a Third Engineer on a tanker such as:
- Structural Integrity: conducted
visual inspections of the bulkheads and hulls of the ship for cracks in the hull and for general structural integrity to ensure
water-tightness of the vessel
- Plumbing Maintenance: repaired plumbing leaks and stoppages; maintained the functionality of all supply
pipes
- Electrical
Maintenance: performed electrical inspections and maintenance on a regular basis, maintained battery systems, took
mega readings on controllers and pumps, and ensured proper insulation
- Air Compressors: maintained and repaired compressors to ensure the
proper supply of control air to the plant that was necessary for the automation of plant operations
- Sewage Systems: researched system specifications and maintained the
system accordingly; trouble shot system interruptions
- Distilling Plant: managed the creation/distillation of fresh water from sea water
through a distillation device and trouble shot problems as they occurred
- Lube Oil Systems: ensured the proper functioning and cleanliness
of lube oil strainers and purifiers
- Hourly Inspections of Operating Systems and Components: checked for proper operation of pumps and motors
by physical contact, gauges, and visual inspections
- Engine Room Management: ensured proper functioning of systems and engineering personnel
MARITIME ENGINEERING – LICENSED
SECOND ENGINEER
- Responsible for the duties assigned
to a Second Engineer on a tanker such as:
- Fuel Oil Systems: cleaned and maintained fuel strainers and fuel oil purifiers
- Fuel Transfers: managed the loading and transfer of fuel on and off
the ship
- Furnace
and Boiler Management: monitored and maintained water levels to ensure proper furnace/boiler functioning, monitored
system for leaks, and made repairs as needed
- Valve Maintenance: inspected and surveyed components throughout the ship to ensure proper functioning and
to isolate and repair any discernable damage
- Furnace Maintenance and Inspection: inspected the refractory inside the furnace; also monitored, maintained,
and repaired furnace burners
MARITIME ENGINEERING – LICENSED FIRST ENGINEER
- Trained and licensed to perform all duties assigned to a First Engineer on a tanker such as:
- Responsibility for all operations, maintenance, and duties relating to all ship
systems
- Performance of any significant maintenance and repairs
necessary for the functioning of the ship’s systems
- Supervision
all of the ship’s engineering personnel
- Responsibility
for training, conduct, and performance of all the ship’s engineering personnel
